TSS Managing Metadata

Let’s face it, the amount and scope of metadata we deal with grows every day and is often even beyond the scope of our ILS. From project management of diversity audits to digital collection management to every day record cleanup, we have vast amounts of metadata from multiple places to clean, transform and analyze.

This program will be a split session on two tools for managing and transforming your metadata: OpenRefine and MarcEdit. Each section will feature a quick introduction to the basics followed by a live demo using the tools featuring some more intermediate features and techniques.

Presenters: Tyler Works, Data and Technology Librarian, Evanston Public Library, Evanston, IL. Elliot Williams, Metadata Strategist, University of Texas at San Antonio, San Antonio, TX, Mike Monaco, Coordinator, Cataloging Services and Associate Professor of Bibliography, University of Akron, Akron, OH.
