Learn the basics of community engagement, and practical steps libraries with limited staff can take to create community connections from Cindy Fesemyer, former Director of the Columbus Public Library in Wisconsin; Learn about the Free Library of Philadelphia’s Skills for Community Centered Libraries Project, which trained staff at all levels on researching neighborhood assets, facilitating community meetings, and contributing to the library’s community engagement initiatives.
Our speakers:
Cindy Fesemyer is Principal at Fesemyer Consulting LLC and a Trustee for the Madison Public Library. Previously she was a Director-at-Large for PLA and Director of the Columbus (WI) Public Library. She has recently written chapters for ALA’s Ask Listen Empower: Grounding Your Library Work in Community Engagement.
Lynn Williamson is Chief of Neighborhood Library Services at the Free Library of Philadelphia. She is the Project Director for the Skills for Community-Centered Libraries Initiative, an IMLS grant funded curriculum dedicated to increasing awareness and skill-building for enhanced community engagement.
