Looking for a way to draw teens into your library?  Learn how to jump start your services as we present “Teens & Tweens: Understanding How They Think; Providing Programs They’ll Love.”  Speakers will discuss topics that include gaming in the library, relating STEM topics to fiction materials and understanding the teenage brain.  Don’t miss this educational opportunity to make your library the place to be for the YA crowd in the new year!

  • 9:50 — 10:00 a.m. Business Meeting
  • 10:00 — 11:30 a.m. “The Teenage Brain” presented by Jennifer Burek Pierce, author of Sex, Brains and Video Games: A Librarian’s Guide to Teens in the 21st Century
  • 11:30 — 12:30 p.m. “STEM Read” Inspiring readers to learn more about STEM concepts in popular YA fiction, presented by Gillian King-Cargile and Mary Baker from Northern Illinois University’s Center for P-20 Engagement and featuring Lex Thomas, author of The Quarantine YA book series.
  • 12:30 — 1:30 p.m.   Lunch Break with book sales and signing by Lex Thomas
  • 1:30 — 12:30 p.m. “Minecraft in the Public Library: One Game, Many Programs! presented by Laura Mesjak and Catherine Blair, Gail Borden Public Library
  • 2:30 — 3:30 p.m. “Tween Titans” presented by Genevieve Grove, Oak Park Public Library
